My sister and I have had a great time working on a Hollywood 3D film production for the last month.
This production came to NZ because of the great natural backdrops and the possibility to produce scenes that are compatible with Jellystone park in the cartoon Yogi Bear. The film will have animated Yogi and Boo boo characters, but everything else will be real life. It has been super interesting learning about 3D production. It’s a hard job filming in this format, basically two cameras shooting two images but slightly offset. It takes a huge amount of time for the camera operators to set up and get each shot.
We got involved, as part of a white water team, and our job was to sort out the logistics for shots for a few white water scenes in the film. This included a number of action shots rafting down Aratiatia rapids, setting up rigs for the actors to get in a raft below Aratiatia. Olivia (sister) is the double for the lead female actor Anna Farris. So she had to paddle the Aratiatia bottom drop with out a helmet 4 times! They greased it every time so no drama.
This production finishes shooting in two weeks, and then we have a wrap party in Auckland, yeow. The movie may be released sometime at the end of this year. If only we could do these jobs more often!
